In Meru, an ex-policeman named Jackson Rukunga has been arrested in connection with the murder of his former lover, Faith Kinya, aged 40.
The incident occurred following a scuffle in Rukunga’s house located in the Igoki location within the Imenti North sub-county.
According to the police report, Jackson Rukunga and Faith Kinya had been living in separate rooms on the same property at Igoki center.
The report states that Faith Kinya entered Rukunga’s house armed with a stone and attempted to steal a television set, welding machine, and grinder, presumably with the intention of selling them. A physical altercation broke out between the two, resulting in Faith Kinya sustaining fatal injuries.
Upon arriving at the scene, police officers discovered Faith Kinya’s lifeless body lying in a pool of blood on the floor of the house. She had injuries on her head, and blood was splashed on the floor and walls. The authorities also seized two stools, a piece of stone, and a white tablecloth with bloodstains as potential evidence.
Faith Kinya’s body was subsequently moved to the Meru Level 5 Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination. Jackson Rukunga is expected to face murder charges in connection with the incident.
It’s worth noting that Meru County has been grappling with a significant number of reported crimes, particularly homicides, and it is among the top three counties with the highest crime rates.
Nairobi topped the list with 6,686 reported crimes, followed by neighboring Kiambu County with 5,715, and Meru County ranking third with 5,032 reported crimes.
