A 30-year-old man who allegedly beat his wife to death in a village in Busia County for overstaying at her relatives’ place has been arrested.

The suspect was apprehended following the death of Caren Auma, 23, a mother of two, in the village of Igigo, Bulemia sub-location.

According to the police, the two had a dispute over domestic issues before the suspect physically assaulted Auma, resulting in her death over the weekend.

Police officers who visited the scene of the incident discovered that the deceased had visited her relatives in Uganda and stayed longer than her husband’s liking, which infuriated him. Upon her return, an argument ensued, escalating to the fatal assault.

The police arrived at the scene, retrieved the body of the deceased, and transported it to the mortuary before apprehending the suspect.

The police stated that the suspect would be presented in court on murder charges while investigations continue to search for three individuals suspected of being criminals in the area.

These suspects are alleged thieves who have been terrorizing the residents of Nyalenda in Kisumu County, where an incident occurred in which a man was killed by a mob for allegedly stealing tuk-tuk tires. Abraham Omondi, 26 years old, was stoned to death by the mob, who then fled upon learning that the police were on their way to the scene.

A similar incident occurred in Rodi, Homa Bay, where Odiwuor Onyinge, 30, was killed by a group of people on suspicion of being a robber.

Incidents of mob justice have been on the rise in villages, often linked to cases of violent robbery and domestic issues within families. The police have urged people not to take the law into their own hands and emphasized the importance of following due legal process.
