In a surprising turn of events, one of the outspoken bloggers associated with the Azimio One Kenya Alliance, Karen Wanjiku, found herself in hot water when she was arrested for allegedly defaming Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. The arrest occurred last Friday at Elmwood Heights apartment, sending shockwaves through the blogging community.

Karen Wanjiku, who maintains an active presence on the blogging platform X, vehemently denied any hacking of her account. Instead, she disclosed that she was apprehended by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) at her Elmwood Heights residence. Her arrest came as a result of a complaint filed by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing her of publishing false information.

Following her arrest, Karen Wanjiku was booked at Muthaiga Police Station. Subsequently, she was presented before the Milimani Court, where she entered a plea regarding the alleged defamatory post concerning Deputy President Gachagua. The court proceedings moved swiftly, with a plea hearing taking place the very next day. The final ruling occurred shortly after, and Karen Wanjiku’s case is scheduled for mention on September 26, 2023, at Milimani Law Court No. 5.

Expressing her distress over the situation, Karen Wanjiku took to social media to seek assistance from the ODM party and prominent figures like Edwin Sifuna and Raila Odinga. She pleaded for support and emphasized her inability to endure another night in custody.

Unmasking her true identity, the blogger’s real name was revealed as Silvance Abeta. Her alleged crime revolved around a tweet in which she claimed that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was plotting to assassinate Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro amidst the ongoing political battle for supremacy in the Mt Kenya region.
