In a disturbing incident that has sent shockwaves through the community, a police officer stationed in Mutitu North Sub-County, Kitui County, was taken into custody on Sunday under grave allegations of raping a woman who was being held in custody at the police station.
The accused officer, identified as a police constable, stands accused of exploiting his authority to secretly remove the female detainee from her cell and subject her to a horrifying ordeal within the confines of one of the station’s office rooms.
The woman in question had been detained due to allegations of malicious damage. However, the station, which should have been a place of protection and justice, turned into a scene of utter horror as she fell victim to the very person entrusted with upholding the law.
The distressing event took a peculiar twist when the officer’s fellow constable, responsible for the same duty, extended his absence from his post while using the restroom.
The situation took a truly dramatic turn when the officer’s own spouse unexpectedly entered the scene. She had visited the police station in search of her husband, who had failed to return home as expected.
While in the station’s report office, the wife’s quest for her husband took an unexpected and shocking turn. She overheard a conversation emanating from one of the rooms, instantly recognizing her husband’s voice. Curiosity drove her to investigate further.
Upon opening the door, the wife was confronted by a sight that defies comprehension â her husband and the female detainee caught in an inappropriate and compromising position.
Fuelled by anger and shock, the wife reacted instinctively. In a swift and vehement response, she used a heavy stick to physically assault the detainee, causing severe injuries.
As a result of the assault, the injured woman was urgently transported to Mutitu Sub-County Hospital for medical evaluation and treatment. Meanwhile, the accused officer was taken into custody, facing charges for the serious offense of rape.
Adding another layer of complexity to the case, the officer’s wife has herself been charged with assault. The couple is expected to appear before a court of law on Monday, August 28, 2023, as the community grapples with the shocking reality that even within the walls of law enforcement, the vulnerable can still be subjected to unspeakable injustices.
