A pastor from a Pentecostal Church in Nigeria has taken his own life by jumping from a building due to a romantic dispute.
According to Punch magazine in the country, the 30-year-old pastor known by the first name Prosper jumped from a two-story building and died instantly after being left by his partner, who had invested a significant amount of time caring for him.
A relative of the deceased who spoke to journalists on Saturday said that the 30-year-old man taught his partner in university, where she rejected his marriage proposal.
He said, “The incident happened last month. The man (Igboke) was 30 years old at the time of his death. His partner, whom he intended to marry, disappointed him after he completed her university education.
“He jumped down from the two-story building and died. I’m surprised that a man of this age and a pastor could do this.”
According to their village culture, the relative said he was buried in the forest for committing a “blasphemy.”
“Finally, he was buried on Friday in a thicket within his community,” the source added.
Cases of men taking their own lives after being mistreated by their partners, whom they had served with everything they had, are not uncommon, and it’s only a short while after men learned from previous such incidents.
