Azimio leader Raila Odinga has issued a strong rebuttal to US Ambassador Meg Whitman’s comments regarding the August 2022 elections, asserting Kenya’s sovereignty and demanding non-interference in internal affairs.
Addressing the Devolution conference, Raila firmly urged Whitman to refrain from meddling in Kenyan matters, emphasizing that Kenya is an independent nation and not a subordinate of the United States.
He proclaimed, “Tell the rogue ambassador Kenya is not the United States. Kenya is not a colony of the United States. Keep your mouth while you are here. Otherwise, we will call for your recall back to your country,” a statement met with resounding applause from a portion of the audience.
Earlier, during the conference’s official inauguration in Eldoret, Whitman had praised the recent elections, asserting they were among the most transparent, free, fair, and credible in Kenyan history. She highlighted the Supreme Court’s affirmation as evidence of the election’s integrity and emphasized that both local and international election organizations had observed the process.
