In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the life of Fred Gitau, a 30-year-old pastor and online taxi driver, was cut short just a day before his eagerly anticipated wedding.
Scheduled to exchange vows with his long-time fiancé, Joyce Waithira, on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at the Deliverance Church in Kahawa Sukari, the couple’s dreams were shattered when Gitau was found lifeless in his home on Friday, August 25.
The circumstances surrounding Gitau’s untimely death are shrouded in mystery.
Upon discovery, his lifeless body was marked by an unsettling detail – white foam around his mouth. The cause of his death remains a puzzle, leaving his loved ones and the community grappling for answers.
According to journalist Simon Mythiora, Gitau was last dropped off at his home by a friend on Thursday night, which makes the sudden and unexplained nature of his demise all the more bewildering.
Reports indicate that in the hours leading up to his death, Gitau allegedly sent a text message to his sister, hinting that if anything were to happen to him, she should seek answers from a specific person. This cryptic message has left those close to him in a state of confusion and concern.
Adding to the enigma, it was discovered that Gitau had been confined within his own home, as an unidentified individual locked him in and threw the keys onto his mother’s balcony.
When the keys were discovered the following morning, his mother assumed he had left for church. Tragically, her hope was met with disappointment when she arrived at the church to find Gitau absent from the meeting he was rumored to have organized.
As the day unfolded, church members grew alarmed by his absence and attempted to reach him. Their attempts to contact him were in vain, and a decision was made to check on him at his residence.
Upon arrival, they were met with a devastating sight – Fred Gitau’s lifeless body. Astonishingly, there was no suicide note to provide any clarity on the circumstances.
Close friends and acquaintances have described Gitau as a jovial individual who appeared to be flourishing. He had even gone the extra mile to build his mother a comfortable bungalow.
The community is left in mourning, awaiting the results of the postmortem examination scheduled to take place at Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital on Monday, August 28.
