Brian Chira, a popular TikTok sensation, found himself at the center of controversy as he faced charges of defaming internet personality Azziad Nasenya.
On Monday, July 31, 2023, Chira appeared at Kibera Law Courts and pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
His lawyer, Michael Masinde, revealed that Chira was charged under section 27 of the computer misuse and cybercrime act for his alleged actions against Azziad.
The content creator was released on a cash bail of Ksh50,000, with an alternative option of a bond amounting to Ksh100,000.
Speaking to the press outside the Kibera Law Court, Masinde stated that Chira had been arrested on Thursday at noon but had not been presented in court until his appearance on Monday.
“He was arrested on Thursday at noon and was not presented at any court until today. My client is fundraising at the moment, we are hopeful that he will manage to raise the cash bail,” the lawyer noted.
The TikToker is currently fundraising to secure the cash bail, and his legal team is optimistic that he will manage to raise the required amount.
According to Azziad’s lawyer, Gertrude Kibare, Chira was arrested in Nakuru before being booked into a Wilson Airport police station.
The accusations against Chira include making defamatory statements about Azziad during a TikTok live session.
Additionally, he is alleged to have shared Azziad’s personal contacts with his audience without her consent, leading to an influx of calls and messages for the internet personality.
“Some time last week he went live online and also shared Azziad’s contacts. My client has been buzzed with a lot of calls and messages since then. Chira allegedly committed computer misuse and cyber crimes and my client decided to pursue the matter legally. The matter is under investigation,” the advocate stated.
