Four people today July 21, 2021, lost their lives on the spot while others sustained serious injuries in an early morning accident along Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
The grisly accident took place in Athi river at the Sabaki area along the busy highway after a passenger Matatu rammed into the rear area of a stationery trailer.
Reports privy to the unfortunate accident indicate that the two ill fated vehicles were both headed towards Nairobi when it occurred.
Further reports show that the incident occurred at around 4.55AM in the morning causing a traffic snarl up along the busy highway and the adjacent roads leading to Kitengela and Namanga.
The seriously injured were rescued rushed by other motorists and Samaritans to the nearby hospitals for quick medical attention.
An eyewitness account of the event show that the victims died because of the negligence of the trailers driver as they never put any indicator despite the trailer stalling on the road, and other vehicles nearly suffered the same fate.
“It is sad that lives have been lost because of a careless road user. The trailer stalled on the road and the driver did not bother to put indicators or warning signs to guide the other road users. Several vehicles nearly rammed into the trailer before the matatu rammed on it.
“The matatu was speeding and there was no alternative to swerve the vehicle to the right as there was another oncoming lorry heading in the opposite direction,” stated the witness.
The accident occurred just a few hours before another accident involving a 14 seater Mololine reportedly occurring on the flyover along the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway earlier today, with more details still unclear.
