Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga has lead Kenyans in Mourning his party Member and former member of parliament for Gem constituency Washington Jakoyo Midiwo.
Jakoyo passed away yesterday evening at the Nairobi hospital at the age of 54 where he was receiving treatment after suffering a cardiac arrest.
Following his death, his cousin and ODM leader Raila Odinga mourned Jakoyao as an astute debater and a man of his words with a rare ability of getting along with everyone.
“First elected MP in 2002, Jakoyo Midiwo served the people of Gem with passion for 3 terms. An astute debater, a man of his word and honor, Jakoyo had a rare ability to work across the aisle and got along with members from across the political divide. I will dearly miss him.” Wrote Raila.
President Uhuru Kenyatta was also not left out, with a message of comfort to the family, relatives, friends and supporters of Hon Jakoyo Midiwo, the President mourned the outspoken politician as a forthright, brave and straight forward leader who spoke his mind at all times.
Other leaders across the Country also took time to mourn the vibrant politician, with Kisumu County governor Anyang’ Nyong’o terming his death unbelievable.
“I’m extremely saddened by the shocking death of my friend- former Gem MP Washington Jakoyo Midiwo. Unbelievable ! Go in peace, Otada.” Wrote Professor Anyang’ Nyong’o.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino also had the following about Jakoyo. “A good heart has stopped beating, a good soul ascended to heaven. We mourn the untimely demise of our brother Jakoyo Midiwo. Rest in power Otada.”
His ODM party also eulogized Midiwo as a gallant soldier who never shied away from speaking the truth.
“Sad day for our party. We have just lost a gallant son of the soil, a founder member of the Change Movement & a three-time Member of Parliament for Gem Hon. Jakoyo Midiwo. He was a defender of the party & never shied away from speaking the truth. To the family, we say POLE SANA,” ODM tweet reads.
