Jubilee party speaks, unveils new strategy after the humiliating losses in recent by-elections

Barely a day after humiliating losses in the just concluded by-elections, the ruling Jubilee party has come up with a new strategy in handling subsequent elections moving forward.

The party through the National Management Committee, yesterday 20 May 2021 noted that it will begin a face to face interviews for the upcoming Kiambaa constituency and Muguga ward by-elections.

In what appears as a change from the norm, through an official letter signed by the party’s secretary general Raphael Tuju, the party revealed that it arrived at the decision after reviewing the applications to County elections board.

This is contrary to the way the party has been selecting its flagbearers in other polls, by way of conducting primaries for which Juja mini polls was one.

The party further apologized to the interested aspirants in the sharp change in the way of conducting business, issuing assurance that the process would be democratic, impartial and transparent.

The Late Kiambaa legislator Paul Koinange.

Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata however faulted the move as jumping from the frying pan into the fire, stating that it would yield no different result.

This is after the party had on April 27 2021 sent out a notice calling on the interested aspirants to submit their applications by May 2, 2021, the application was initially a download, print and fill and later scanned and mailed back to the party address.

The two seats fell vacant after the deaths of Paul Koinange of Kiambaa, and Muguga’s Eliud Ngugi while receiving treatments at the Nairobi hospital and Kenyatta University Teaching and referral hospital respectively.

The party was recently humiliated in all the three by elections conducted in Juja and Bonchari Constituencies and the Rurii ward.

In Bonchari the ruling party’s candidate Zebedeo Opore lost to former energy and petrolium boss Engineer Pavel Oimeke, while In Juja Wakapee’s widow Susan Njeri was also white washed by PEP’s George Koimburi.

In Rurii ward polls the party’s candidate Peter Thinji also lost to the DP Ruto’s UDA linked party candidate Francis Muraya.
