Samia Suluhu meets President Uhuru at State House, Nairobi

Tanzanian president Samia Suluhu on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 landed in Kenya for a two-day official visit.

President Suluhu has made her first visit to Kenya since she was sworn in as the Tanzania’s sixth head of state and the first female leader in East African region.

Her visit was announced in a statement made by State House, Nairobi on Tuesday, May 4, 2021.

“Her Excellency President Samia Suluhu Hassan of the United Republic of Tanzania has arrived in Nairobi for a two-day State visit to Republic of Kenya.

President Suluhu will later today be received at State House, Nairobi by her host President Uhuru Kenyatta,”the statement from the State House reads.

On her arrival at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, the 61-year-old Tanzanian leader was received by Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Raychelle Omamo and her Sports counterpart Amina Mohamed among other government officials.

She thereafter proceeds to State Houe, Nairobi, where she was received by President Uhuru Kenyatta and given a 21-gun salute.

“His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta has received visiting Tanzania President, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan at State House, Nairobi.

Suluhu then inspected a guard of honour before she held talks with Uhuru and members of his team.

According the the statement from State House, Nairobi

“His Excellency President Uhuru Kenyatta has received visiting Tanzania President, Her Excellency Samia Suluhu Hassan at State House, Nairobi.

“The two leaders are scheduled to hold private talks and lead their respective delegations for bilateral talks before addressing a joint press briefing,” the state house statement reads.

Even though state house did not divulge details of the meeting, Suluhu had in her speech to parliament last week reiterated her commitment to repairing broken diplomatic ties with Tanzania’s neighbours that may have been severed in the past regimes.

“If you call it a change, then it will be a renewed effort on economic diplomacy,” she said.

During her official visit to Kenya, Suluhu would address a joint sitting of the parliament on Wednesday, May 5, 2021
