Cleophas Malala reveals ongoing private talks with close Raila relative to have him join ANC

Just about a month after DP Ruto sensationally went before the cameras and claimed that he has been in constant secret talks with Kakamega governor and deputy party leader of ODM, Wycliffe Oparanya, Cleophas Malala appears to be borrowing a page from the same book.

Over the weekend, the vocal Kakamega senator, while trying to argue against claims that the Amani National Congress party is a regional party whose strength is largely based in the Western part of the country, rubbished such claims. He then went on to explain that through the umbrella of the more expansive One Kenya Alliance, the party had been able to make inroads to various parts of the country.

He said that through Kalonzo Musyoka, they had created a foothold in upper Eastern, and through Gideon Moi, they were penetrating the Rift Valley.

Malala was speaking on K24’s Sunday night political show with Daniel Kituu.

When Kituu pressured Malala to address the Nyanza issue, and why the region wasn’t appearing in the regions he had just listed, Malala went ahead to disclose that on the contrary, they were in crucial talks with prominent Nyanza leaders such as Migori governor Okoth Obado.

Malala also said that apart from Obado, they were also in talks with Jakoyo Midiwo.

Jakoyo Midiwo is not only a prominent leader from the region, but also a former member of parliament for Gem constituency. He also happens to be a cousin to Raila.

In the last parliament, Jakoyo had been an ardent and staunch supporter of Raila Odinga and the ODM party. However, in the 2017 polls a shock result that was blamed by some on him concentrating too much on national politics awaited him at the ballot.

Jakoyo, on his part, claimed that he had been rigged out during the ODM nominations, and this saw him move out of the party, but only to lose in the general elections.
