Siaya Senator James Orengo has told opponents of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga to prepare for a tough political contest come 2022 general election.
The Senate Minority leader has dismissed all presidential candidates lined up to succeed president Uhuru Kenyatta saying that non of them can challenge nor defeat Raila.
He said that is ready to take over the country’s leadership from president Uhuru upon his retirement in 2022.
Speaking at a burial in Migori County on Friday, April 30, 2021 the Siaya Senator urged Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party supporters to remain solidly behind Raila ahead of 2022 elections.
“There is no political heavyweight in Kenya right now who can match ODM leader Raila Odinga. He is heavy and ready to take over the country’s leadership. When we were battling the disputed 2017 presidential election result, some cowards left us alone,” Orengo said.
While referring to Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya’s Moses Wetang’ula, and Kalonzo Musyoka of Wiper party, Orengo dismissed their demands that Raila should back one of them for the top seat.
He noted that the NASA coalition co-principals had abandoned Raila during his mock swearing-in as people’s president in 2018 .
“Those who are fighting Raila’s ascension to the presidency by forming other coalitions should tell Kenyans where they were when Raila was being sworn-in as the people’s president at Uhuru Park,” the Siaya Senator said.
Although Raila has not publicly declared his interest for the top seat, his allies led by Siaya Senator James Orengo and Suba South Member of Parliament John Mbadi has hinted that his name will be on the ballot box come 2022 general election.
“We have started rolling out activities. Anyone who thinks we are not in this thing (presidential race) should know we are there,” Mbadi said.
