Cherargei; Koome should resist ongoing efforts by deep state to extend Uhuru’s term

In a strongly worded advisory, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has given the Judicial Service Commission nominee for Chief Justice Martha Koome an important pointer in case she is approved as the next top judge to replace retired CJ David Maraga.

The vocal Rift Valley senator said by now it is rather obvious that not only is there a plan underway to extend Uhuru Kenyatta’s term but that also the plans themselves were at an advanced stage. He then went ahead to wish nominee Koome all the best, but then added a plea.

He said that the plans of the deep state would eventually rope in the Judiciary since it is an integral part of any legislation.

He pleaded with Martha Koome, asking her to be firm and steadfast when that moment came.

Charargei was speaking on Citizen TV’s morning show Daybreak which was hosted by Trevor Ombija. The senator was appearing alongside Rarieda member of parliament Otiende Amollo, Kiambu senator and Senate Chief Whip Kimani Wamatangi and Machakos governor Dr. Alfred Mutua.

In a lengthy address, Cherargei also applauded the progress made so far in expanding and improving the Court network. Referring to his court cases which also involve incitement, he said that although it was obvious he was facing trumped up charges, the cases had been handled and concluded speedily.

He further urged the potentially next CJ to vigorously push for increased funding from the government for better operation since, without money and adequate support, whatever grand plans she might have were bound to fail.

He concluded by touching on the issue of the more than 40 Judges who the Judicial Service Commission recommended to the president but have so far not been appointed. He said that next to improved funding, she should also make it a top priority to ensure that the Executive finally appoints the Judges and gives the lean judicial workforce the much needed labour.
