KFCB CEO Ezekiel Mutua goes after Mt Kenya Tv for airing obscene content targeting kids

Kenya Film Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua has accused Mt Kenya Tv for airing obscene contents on a children’s program.

Ezekiel Mutua on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 said that the board had received numerous complaints from a section of Kenyans over the matter and vowed that disciplinary action would be taken against the media house.

In his statement, Mutua noted that many children are likely to have watched the obscene contents bearing in mind that they were home for the holidays.

“It should be noted that although the program has been pulled down, the violation has already been committed as the content had not been submitted to the Board for examination and classification in line with the Films and Stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the laws of Kenya,” Mutua stated.

The KFCB Boss added that the media house has committed a serious offence by airing the adult contents to children hence exposing them to adulthood life.

“The timing of airing such explicit content disguised as a children program is a serious offense…it exposes children to adult experiences,” he added.

The KFCB has vowed to work with the Communications Authority of Kenya and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the media house and take the necessary action.

“We thank members of the public for drawing our attention to this issue and appeal for more vigilance to protect children from exposure to harmful content,” he concluded.

This is after the station had apologised to the audience for the mistake following the public condemnation of the act.
