Details of the late night secret meeting of Tangatanga MPs emerge

As the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenya gathers momentum, Members of Parliaments allied to Deputy President William Ruto held a late night meeting where they presented a number of ultimatums to the DP ahead of 2022 presidential election.

The meeting was held at Mathira Member of Parliament Rigathi Gachagua’s residence in Karen, Nairobi County and was attended by 48 legislators from Mount Kenya Region.

In a joint statement, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua stated that they want DP Ruto to reveal the plans he has for the Mount Kenya region’s development.

Among the demands issued by the MPs include; funds for traders, water projects, infrastructure and agricultural growth.

“We want our region to be guaranteed minimum returns under the Ruto presidency. All agricultural sectors are on their knees and we want him to tell us what he will do to resuscitate them,” Gachagua stated.

The legislators also demanded top political seats should the Ruto succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta. Among the positions that they are eying for include; the Deputy President slot, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister slots and other strategic positions.

However, this will depend on the success of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) Constitutional amendment Bill.

During the meeting, the lawmakers also formed two committees to push their. The first Committee comprises Meru Senator Mithika Linturi, MP Gachagua, Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa, Alice Wahome (Kandara), John Kinyua (Laikipia), Tharaka Nithi Women representative Beatrice Nkatha and her Kirinyaga counterpart Wangui Ngirichi, Faith Gitau (Nyandarua), and Nominated MP Cecily Mbarire. 

The Committee fronting the economic revival plans will be chaired by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro. He will be aided by Dagoretti South MP John Kiarie, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika, George Kariuki (Ndia) and John Muchiri (Manyatta).
