Nakuru county government has confirmed the death of three COVID-19 patients after the oxygen processing plant broke down over the weekend.
The facility which is located at the Nakuru Level Five Hospital malfunctioned on Saturday, April 10, leading to low oxygen production.
County executive committee member for Health Gichuki Kariuki said the plant failed to produce the required 80 cylinders and instead produced 40.
The three patients were on supplementary oxygen when the incident.
Hewa Tele chief executive officer Wali Zulfiqar Wali who owns the facility confirmed that they halted producing medical oxygen for about four hours as engineers worked to restore it.
“For four hours late in the night, we stopped our operations which normally run round the clock. We are glad that our engineers managed to restore the system within the short period,” he stated.
