Since his falling out with the ODM party and its senior members last year, Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala has not been shy of admitting to some of the mistakes he has been accusing of making, and going ahead to publicly apologise and seek for forgiveness.
From accusations of disrespecting the party that sponsored him to parliament (ANC) and its leader too (Musalia Mudavadi), to accusations of being used to sow seeds of division, he has accepted all.
However, there seems to be one issue which the former MCA appears to have drawn a line on, and will neither budge, nor apologise.
In a video clip that has since gone viral of him during an interview with a local radio station, taken back when he was still a renegade senator supporting ODM against his own party, Malala can be seen and heard ridiculing the ANC party on the basis of its composition, wondering how a party that hopes to win the presidency has all its leaders from one region, starting with the party leader, secretary general, chairman, and others.
During his night interview on KTN’s show NewsNight which was hosted by Akisa Wandera last week who was sitting in for Ken Mijungu, Akisa played the clip and asked him whether he had anything to say, now that he was praising the same party he could be seen mocking.
However, when Malala spoke, far from being apologetic, he seemed to reiterate his earlier stance.
Accusing KTN of being selective in their analysis, he stated that as recently as during his speech at Mariakani church, he had raised the same issue, and even went ahead to outline a plan they are working on as a party which will make it more inclusive, and adopt a national outlook.
In a separate interview by the deputy president afterwards where Radio Citizen went to interview him at his Karen residence, the DP quoted Malala, saying he had even heard others who were dissatisfied with their own party’s composition, since the entire management of the party comes from one region.
