Details of Uhuru, DP Ruto parallel meetings with Governors and MPs

As the race for 2022 draws near with defections and regroupings witnessed across the political divide, one region has been of interest attracting the attention of both President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.

In what appears as a move to stamp authority in the vote-rich Coastal region President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy Dr. Ruto yesterday held separate meetings with leaders from the region.

The President has since gone for the regional big names in governors and DP’s close allies in the region to counter Ruto’s influence in the region.

Kenyatta yesterday March 24 2021 hosted Coastal governors in Hassan Joho of Mombasa, Salim Mvurya of Kwale, and Amason Kingi of Kilifi at the Statehouse.

Confirming the Presidential meeting, Mombasa governor Ali Joho termed it a success, while reports say that it centered more on the region’s development.

“Together with my Kwale and Kilifi counterparts we had a productive meeting with HE Uhuru Kenyatta at the State House,” posted Joho.

Reiterating his sentiments was his Kilifi counterpart Amason Kingi with not many details revealed.

“Today, we had a meeting with HE President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House, together with my colleagues,” Kingi shared.

The President is also said to have touched on the role of the governors and regional leaders on popularizing the BBI.

His Deputy on the other hand opted for the region’s parliamentarians hosting them at his Karen residence too, in a move to woo the region.

The second in command met Aisha Jumwa of Malindi, Feisal Bedi of Msambweni, Owen Baya of Kilifi North, Khatib Mwashetani of Lunga Lunga, Lamu Senator Anuar Loitiptip, and former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar.

Reports indicate that the DP’s meeting was focused on the need to strengthen the hustler nation campaigs in the region ahead of the 2022.
