Uhuru cancels key engagements invites Raila to crisis meeting hours after phone call

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta are expected to be hold up in a closed-door meeting today at the statehouse a day after a phone call over alleged fall out.

During the meeting, the ODM leader will come face to face with his NASA counterpart and Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi and Wiper democratic movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Also expected to attend the meeting are, Gideon Moi (KANU), Moses Wetangula (FORD-Kenya) and Charity Ngilu (NARC), former Chairman of the Council of Governors, Wycliffe Oparanya and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho.

Suna East legislator Junet Mohammed however divulged that the meeting had been pre-planned and is in no way connected with the alleged fallout.

“The meeting of the party leaders is on course as earlier planned,” Mohamed said, referring to Gideon Moi’s press statement on Thursday, February 25, where the KANU leader said that Uhuru and Raila will meet all political leaders who support BBI on Tuesday, March 9 to discuss a way forward.

Speaking on anonymity, some of the party leaders disclosed that they had not received invitations to the said meeting.

Reports indicate that President Kenyatta had cancelled his yesterday’s meeting with the MPs and MCAs to focus on the statehouse meeting.

The meeting was pushed to a later date with the President keen on uniting the BBI proponents who seem divided fueling speculation of cracks in handshake from DP Ruto allies.

“It was too early to hold the meeting (with legislators) because we do not know what kind of information the public will tell the joint committee which will inform the decision of members during the debate in assemblies.

“I am sure we shall also celebrate the anniversary of the handshake at a later date,” Majority leader in Parliament, Amos Kimunya said. Uhuru and the ODM leader shook hands on March 8, 2018, leading to the birth of the BBI soon after the partnership.

The two leaders were to give the clear road map for the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

This comes amid cries from the ODM camp of plans by top government officials to sabotage the handshake between the two leaders.
