Police have launched a manhunt for Former Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa after he was caught on video slapping an Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official in Matungu Constituency, Kakamega County.
The former Cabinet Secretary is reported to have gone on hiding after he slapped an IEBC official at Bulonga polling station in Matungu Constituency.
Echesa had accused the IEBC official (Peter Okura), of chasing one of their agents at the Bulonga Primary School polling station.
In a video that was shared online on Thursday, March 4, 2021, the former Cabinet Secretary for Sports was seen angrily lecturing the official demanding to know why he had chased their agents before removing his mask and slapping him.
“Our agents are outside the polling station my friend. You cannot chase our agents outside. Why are you chasing them outside? Uliambiwa by who?” Echesa said.
“Sheria inasema call all the agents to witness sio kuita individual,” he added.
Report indicated that Mr. Okura had stopped one of United Democratic Alliance’s (UDA) agents from entering the polling venue because he did not adhered to the rules and regulations as per the IEBC.
The Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official on his defense claimed that the agent had refused to wear a face mask.
