New development as ODM extends deadline for party’s presidential applications issuing ultimatums

In what is seen as a fair move, for equal opportunities to all the Party members, The Raila Odinga-led Orange Democratic Movement party has today extended its deadline for the Presidential applications.

The party pushed its deadline for the Presidential candidates by a month from, February 26, 2021, to March 31, 2021.

In an announcement made today by the Party’s National Elections Board Chairperson Catherine Mumma through a notice, the Orange party said that the candidates have up to March 31 to table their application.

“Further to the notice of the National Elections Board (NEB) of January 21, 2021, calling for the submission of applications by individuals interested in consideration as the ODM party presidential candidate for the 2022 general elections, this is to extend the deadline for the submission of applications from 26th February 2021 to 31st march 2021,” Mumma said.

“All interested interest candidates are required to submit their application in the prescribed manner.”

The Management also detailed a number of requirements for the applications to sail through, which includes being a Kenyan, registered voter, and a life member of the Orange party.

Other requirements include holding a degree from a recognized university and also paying a non-refundable registration fee of 1Million to the party’s bank account.

Among those expected to go for the party’s top ticket includes Mombasa governor Hassan Joho, who had already sent his application, and his Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya to battle it out with the Party leader Raila Odinga.

The Party is expected to kick start its grassroots recruitment in a bottom-up approach to incorporate fresh blood and also strengthen the party’s democracy.

This comes shortly after the party had reviewed its nomination regulations to lockout last-minute party hopers, by registering its members as Bonafide and having been there for at least 2yeas before the elections.
