Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti has revealed how four people planned and executed the murder of Nyeri businessman Daniel Mwangi Wang’ondu.
According to a series of tweets made on DCI official page, the victim’s father Stephen Wang’ondu Kinini hired three men to murder his son at a KSh 160,000 fee.
Interestingly, the three were Mwangi’s long-time friends.
The report indicated that Stephen gabe his driver, Mahinda KSh 20,000 and instructed him to form a team that would execute the plan at the aforementioned fee.
On December 31, Mahinda left Nyeri for Embu where he met his accomplices and briefed them on the task ahead, the victim’s residence, movements and the car he drove.
They travelled back to Nyeri where they later they bought a murder weapon at a local hardware, with which they used to murder Mwangi.
The suspects a into hiding for two months until recent when DCI detectives unravelled the mystery behind the killing.
On Saturday, February 20, the driver James Mahinda Mwangi was traced to Nairobi’s Githurai area where he was immediately apprehended.
Upon interrogation, he led officers to Embu at Matakani area where two other suspects; Geoffrey Waturi and Eddy Kariuki Ngari were also arrested.
A manhunt has been launched for a sixth suspect; Raphael Wachira, who is also believed to have aided the suspects, and who has since run into hiding.
