Barely a day after ODM leader Raila Odinga refused to endorse a member of his former NASA outfit, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has talked.
The former vice president has broken his silence revealing the behind-the-scenes details of the secret pack between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the former Premier ahead of the repeat elections.
Speaking through his aide, Mudavadi delved into the circumstances surrounding the repeat 2017 general elections and the powerplay that gave birth to the handshake.
According to the ANC leader, Odinga called for the mass boycott of the election, after they had agreed on the handshake deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“But there is more cowardice to pull out of a repeat election, disguised as a protest of the pre-rigged outcome when in actual fact it’s only because the act is part of a pre-arranged settlement for yourself,” Musalia said through his spokesman Kibisu Kabatesi.
This is after the opposition leader accused his co-principles of cowardice during his swearing-in at Uhuru Park as the people’s President.
“When we were going for the swearing-in, in Nairobi they refused. They switched off their phones and they were shivering due to fear. They now want me to give them the mantle by supporting them,” he said.
He added: “Can I give them the mantle? I won’t give them because they demonstrated their cowardice.”
The three leaders failed to show up, abandoning Raila at the last minute in an event that attracted a mammoth crowd.
Odinga’s remarks have also seen him tackled head-on by former National Resistance Movement general (NRM) Miguna Miguna accusing him of betrayal.
The aftermath of the Uhuru park event saw Miguna deported back to Canada where he currently lives.
“@RailaOdinga boasts of having taken the OATH as the people’s and chastises @skmusyoka,@Wetangula, and MusaliaMudavadi for hiding during the ceremony. However, Raila refuses to admit that he betrayed the 5-Star General who swore him.” Tweeted Miguna Miguna.
