In an attempt to woo and ring ring-fence a chunk of votes from President Uhuru Kenyatta’s backyard ahead of the 2022 general elections, Deputy President William Ruto was over the weekend met with the unthinkable in his previously welcoming Mt Kenya region friends.
This is after Deputy President William Ruto was met with a hostile reception at the Nyandarua’s Ol Kalau town where he had stopped to address the public yesterday after a church service.
It was a subsequent time after an initial one at the engineer town, where he had been heckled earlier with the public demanding development, respect to their leaders, and shunning wheelbarrows.
The event further degenerated to a section of the audients asking the DP to visit the Kiambaa church site where over 30 people perished during the 2007 post-poll skirmishes.
Hell broke loose just after the DP had made a stop to address the people after a church service at engineer town, following an earlier demand by the local Boda Boda operators.
They then converged at the roadside where the second in command addressed people, with the anti-wheelbarrow chants later renting the air, when they finally called for development.
“We want the BBI, not stories. We want roads and water, not wheelbarrows. Respect our leaders,” some shouted.
This did not move Dr. Ruto either who further took another shot by highlighting what they have been through with his boss President Kenyatta and their achievements.
“I want to remind you that I am the only one who stood with the President when he was an accused in the ICC. Where were these others? Where were Kalonzo Musyoka, Raila Odinga, Musalia Mudavadi, and Moses Wetang’ula? Let us be honest,” he said.
He promised to establish a 100Million hustler fund kitty in every constituency, to support small traders should he be elected the President come 2022.
