DP Ruto strikes a new deal ahead of face-off with ODM [Photos]

Deputy President William Ruto has today gotten a huge boost in preparation for a bruising titanic showdown with arch-rivals ODM party in the upcoming by-election.

This is after the second in command in the company of Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala and Rashid Echesa boosted his support base ahead of the Matungu by-election.

The trio at DP’s Karen home in Nairobi managed to convince former Mumias mayor Ronald Anzelimo Kongoti into shelving his political ambitions for the support of Ruto’s favorite Alex Lanya.

Taking to his social media account shortly after brokering the deal, Deputy President William Ruto updated the following.

“Met with Ronald Anzelimo Kongoti, the former Mayor Mumias and a candidate in the Matungu by-election. Mheshimiwa Kongoti has graciously accepted to vacate his political ambitions and support Alex Lanya, the hustler candidate. Also in attendance was former CS Rashid Echesa, Karen, Nairobi County.” Wrote DP Ruto.

Ruto and his brigade are keen to pull another Msambweni surprise in the polls to replace the late Justus Murunga an ardent supporter of the DP who died late last year due to Covid-19 related complications.

The lucrative seat attracted the interest of a number of candidates, ODM and ANC included, with Murunga’s son Eugene Ambwere and his stepmother Christabel Amunga not left out.

Lanya will battle it out on a UDA ticket with the other 11 interested candidates already cleared by the IEBC.

The independent candidates already cleared are Bernard Wakoli, Gregory Atoko, Kevin Nectus, Wilberforce Lutta, Athman Wangara, and Samuel Munyekenye.

Also cleared for the race are Peter Nabulindo (ANC), David Were (ODM), Charles Kasamani (UDP), Paul Achayo (MDG), and Faida Auma of Maendeleo Chap Chap.
