The differences between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto have gone a notch higher after details emerged of why the DP’s allied leaders from the Mt Kenya region were barred from the Sagana lodge meeting.
The two-day meeting was convened by President Uhuru Kenyatta and a section of the Mt Kenya leaders and is expected to discuss among others how to popularize the BBI on which the president has anchored his legacy in the central region.
The head of state seems to have taken a different route, only chatting the paths with the leaders who promote his agenda in the region, leaving behind the distractors.
Sources close to the President indicate that key decisions could be made today ahead of the meeting, with the statehouse expected to address a press conference.
“We expect the President to explain the BBI and its bearing on his legacy and how it affects the region.
He will also explain the dangers of the Hustler versus Dynasty narrative,” Said Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu.
Wambugu added that the decision to lock out DP Ruto allies from the meeting was fueled by their already made decision to oppose the BBI, hence conflicting ideas.
“The President stopped walking around with people who don’t support his agenda. He resolved to work alone a long time ago. Even his deputy absconded duty,” added Ngunjiri.
Wambugu’s words were echoed by his Kieni counterpart Kanini Kega who added that they cannot be with the DP’s allies in the same meeting with divergent ideas.
“We cannot be with Tanga Tanga in the same meeting. They are talking about 2022 politics and we are not interested in that and that’s why they have not been invited,” he said
The President is also said to be very upset with criticism from leaders from his backyard and plans to use the talks to consolidate his strategy to restore his grip on his political base.
This comes hours after Jubilee party Deputy Chairman David Murathe revealed that plans were underway to impeach the DP.
“William Ruto will be impeached for gross insubordination and being disrespectful of the Presidency.
Take that to the bank. Parliament will prioritize the impeachment of the DP as its first business of the year.
The plan for his impeachment has been on the cards for some time now. We are doing numbers and we are satisfied that what we have is enough for us to impeach him,” Murathe said yesterday during an interview with Kameme TV.
He also added that a second purge is also in the offing to deal with his allies who support the activities of the United Democratic Alliance Party.
