Since 2013, Deputy President William Ruto has endeared himself to the residents of the Mt Kenya region. The DP has been carrying out fundraising activities and empowerment projects to support the region’s residents. The outcome of his activities has evidently led to a huge endorsement of his 2022 Presidential aspirations by leaders and residents of the Mt Kenya region. Undoubtedly, his increasing popularity has dealt a blow to President Uhuru Kenyatta, who now seems to be struggling to get his people’s audience and maybe steer them to important regional issues.
The President, however, is not giving up any time soon after emerging reports suggest that the head of state has embarked on a different plan to restore his lost glory in his Central Kenya backyard. President Uhuru Kenyatta has mobilized Cabinet Secretaries, Parastatal Chiefs from the region, according to the Star, to begin meeting people and engaging them as they market the Jubilee Government’s growth agenda and the BBI’s most relevant provisions.
The state officers are set to hold meetings with county governors from the region. The meeting is set to come up with plans that will see the Head of State take charge of the region rich in votes.
After the conclusion of the plans, the governors and the State officials are then expected to hold radio talk shows in vernacular radio stations in Mt Kenya. The shows will be used to list to the residents, the development projects that President Uhuru has introduced in the region.
“It is no longer going to be business as usual as top state officers roll up their sleeves, stepping out of their comfort zones and hitting the ground in the President’s turf,” an officer privy to the plans told the Star.
The leaders are said to planning to strictly have a conversation about the BBI and they are going to keep off succession politics in their tours.
