Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot on Wednesday 20 January 2021 weighed in on the ongoing “Uhuru-Sonko” debate.
In a tweet, the Senator said impeached Governors Mike Sonko and Ferdinand Waititu helped President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to get votes in Nairobi County as it was the opposition’s stronghold.
He noted that despite the impeached governors helping UhuRuto, they are now jobless courtesy of then head of state.
“It’s Sonko and Waititu who worked for their infiltration into Nairobi. The two are now jobless thanks to Uhuru. Anyway, nothing unique. Who still has a job ?” Cheruiyot posed.
Speaking during a recent interview, Uhuru said that he had a hand in ensuring that Mike Sonko was impeached.
He explained that it was because he did not do anything for Nairobi residents during his time in office.
Uhuru further said that he also helped him get the Nairobi gubernatorial seat but instead of working, he was up and down doing nothing.
Following his remarks, Sonko was quick to respond making it clear that the President did not make him the Governor of Nairobi.
He stated that he was validly elected by close to one million residents of Nairobi, garnering more votes than the President himself.
He addef that when he assumed from former Governor Evans Kidero, he inherited a badly run-down city that held an endemic culture of stealing public resources at the expense of services delivery.
