Joho’s long term ally turns against him in dramatic turn of events

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho is once again in the spotlight after a close ally and confidant turned against him over an alleged failed multi-billion County project.

The self-declared Coastal Sultan is under the bus for not delivering a six billion affordable housing project once promised to the Mombasa people in Buxton Estate.

This is after the Mvita Member of Parliament Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir led a section of other Coastal political leaders to criticize his long-term ally for not delivering on the project.

The Nassir led group cited alleged fraud and double-dealings in the project and sought suspension while thorough evaluation is conducted in the project.

Among the Coastal leaders involved in the strike includes Former Mombasa senator Hassan Omar, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali, and ward reps Charles Kitula and Faith Mwende, and others.

Pointing an accusing finger at Suleiman Shahbal who won the tender, Nassir claimed Shahbal had a conflict of interest.

“We want honesty. If you’re a developer and you want to do business with the county, there is something known as a conflict of interest.

“What if you want to be a governor? What happens then? The committee led by its chairman came to my office and raised pertinent issues,” Nassir stated.

Other issues raised by the legislator includes mortgage arrangement on how the people will repay the loan, and also the assurance to the people of Mombasa that they will be given first priority in the housing allocation.

The project is to cover over 1900 units including pre-primary schools, hospitals, youth, and training centers in the next 3 to 5 years.

The two leaders are whispered to be warming up as potential Joho successors in the Mombasa gubernatorial position.

  1. With Trump out of office, politicians like Gaetz have become the heirs apparent – testing whether his confrontational conservative rhetoric, penchant for cultural warfare and right-wing populism can be a blueprint for long-term electoral success. Gaetz certainly has followed the Trump playbook when defending himself against these allegations – conceding nothing and lobbing a shotgun blast of assorted accusations at his critics and detractors.
