Troubled Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Akuot has dismissed a letter doing rounds on social media claiming the party had unveiled exiled lawyer Miguna Miguna to be its candidate for the Nairobi byelection.
”To Reclaim this great city, Dr. Miguna offers his candidature in the upcoming by-election. As is his trademark, Dr. Miguna’s candidature is not separate from the virtues that he has fought for and which remain the defining hallmark of his public and private life – integrity, Visionary and transformative leadership, elimination of corruption and development for all,” read the letter, signed by party Chair Muru Waweru.
However, party leader Aukot now claims the letter is fake and urged Kenyans not to be led by ‘rent seekers’ and merchants of their party, Thirway Alliance.
”Kenyans, don’t be misled by rent seekers and merchants in our party. While I would love to have the NRM General @MigunaMiguna as our candidate, the party under my leadership never even discussed his candidature as an agenda. This is the work of rent seekers!” Ekuru Aukot said in a Tweet.
Last month, the Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu said the ousted Thirdway Alliance Party leader can only be an ordinary member in his own party after he was ousted from its helm in September over disciplinary issues.
Nderitu said after a thorough review of the documents submitted to her by the Thirdwday Alliance officials, she was satisfied with the disciplinary actions against Aukot but said his expulsion from the Party Leader’s position did not follow the correct procedure. Nderitu revoked the expulsion and told Thirdway Alliance officials Aukot can still be an ordinary member of the party.
