Hours after Somalia cut all its diplomatic ties with Kenya and sent troops to the border between the two countries in Mandera, President Uhuru Kenyatta convened a top-level meeting with KDF top General Chief of Staff Gen. Robert Kibochi at State House in Nairobi.
The meeting was also attended by US Africa Command (AFRICOM) Commander Gen. Stephen Townsend and US Ambassador to Kenya Kyle McCarter. On Tuesday, residents of Mandera woke up to the site of Somalia National Army hoovering around the border town.
The move comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta hosted President Muse Bihi of the break-away Somaliland at State House Nairobi on Monday. Bii would later meet Raila Odinga after talks with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Addressing the media on Tuesday afternoon in Nairobi, Col. Oguna lamented the deplorable diplomatic relations between the two countries adding that a lot was at stake.
“There is a committee that has been put in place to be able to look into the issues that are coming between these two neighbouring countries that have a lot of history between the two of them. Once the issues are addressed then the press will be notified,” Oguna said.
