Drama was witnessed earlier today in Msambweni as the constituency is headed for a by-election to determine the next Member of Parliament.
The early morning mayhem saw a section of Deputy President William Ruto’s Tanga Tanga allies and supporters allegedly ill-minded at causing chaos in the constituency ahead of the by-elections.
Speaking earlier today, ODM aspirant Omar Boga cited a case of a slight problem where some misguided individuals wanted to cause problems in the area aimed at scaring voters in his strongholds on the ongoing by-elections.
“It is as if they are looking for my areas of strongholds and causing scenes so that the women in the area will shy away from voting,” Boga told reporters.
He later urged the voters to turn up in large numbers and vote, adding that the process was first and everything was in place having voted earlier in the morning.
“I already voted at around 8 am at Jogoo Primary School and everything is running smoothly. The process is fast and only took me a minute to vote,” he stated.
This comes after a section of Tanga Tanga allied leaders had come out crying foul over alleged transfers made in the security Department yesterday night ahead of today’s mini polls.
The late-night changes saw Msambweni OCPD Mr. Bitok and a team of his police officers allegedly transferred and a new team deployed in the area.
Led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, the leaders expressed their concerns on the motive behind the bizarre transfers in the area while the polls draw near.
“Msambweni top security officers transferred a night before elections meanwhile a team of police officers who have been meeting a Governor in Mombasa are set to take over from tonight. What is the motive?” he tweeted.
His words were echoed by the Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome, who suspected foul play in the transfers ahead of the much-awaited mini polls.
Wahome demanded an explanation from the Ministry of Interior over the alleged transfers of the area OCPD and his contingent of police officers.
“The PS Interior and Coordination National Gov’t. Tell the country why you have made an emergency transfer of OCPD Bitok of Msambweni and his police officers. Are you planning to mess up with Electoral security for by-election tomorrow?” she tweeted.
Msambweni constituents take to the ballot today to determine their next Member of parliament after the death of Suleiman Dori in March after a long and unsuccessful battle with cancer.
ODM’s Omar Boga and independent candidate Faisal Abdallah are among the big names going for the seat.
