Deputy President William Ruto has summoned his allies for a crisis meeting barely three days into the collection of Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) signatures that will lead to the referendum process.
DP Ruto who has been the biggest critic of the BBI report caught many by surprise after he changed his tune, giving the bill a green-light.
The second in command has convened an urgent meeting with all his allies on Wednesday December 2, 2020 at his Karen residence in Nairobi.
Sources revealed that the DP intends to use the opportunity to declare his stand over the BBI report and the recently launched signature collection.
The planned meeting will be attended by over 150 allies of the Deputy President.
Ruto is said to have invited a team of experts whose main task during the planned meeting will be to analyze and explain the latest report and also help in the identification of contentious issues in the bill.
This comes as it emerges that there is a major split in the DP Ruto’s wing following his recent move to support the BBI report which he had claimed should be amended to accommodate the views of all the stakeholders.
His allies who have differed sharply with his latest move over the BBI report include; Elegyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Kandara Member of Parliament Alice Wahome.
Some of Ruto’s close allies who have since changed their stand on the report include; Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria, Mumias East MP Ben Washiali, Nandi Senator Samson Charargei and nominated Senator Millicent Omanga.
Kuria took to his social media and highlighted changes that were made to the document, stating that he was impressed with the changes.
Omanga on her part posted a message saying that she had declared her total support for the report after all issues that they had presented concerning the BBI had been put into consideration.
“Well, the final BBI Report is a remarkable improvement. Our proposals on Nairobi are captured; Women and PWDs have gained their rightful share. The youth have an enhanced package. I hereby declare my unwavering support & full endorsement of BBI. Fired up! Ready to go!” Omanga stated.
She however, dismissed the statement claiming that her Twitter account had been hacked.
