Days after the BBI reggae was stopped after a 3-hour meeting between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, pro-BBI MPs from Mount Kenya region have announced their first major move.
The move saw the Kieleweke brigade retreat back to the drawing board and emerge with a new strategy even as celebrations engulfed the Tanga Tanga camp.
The Kieleweke politicians, allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta and Opposition leader Raila Odinga from Mount Kenya region have unveiled an aggressive campaign to popularise the BBI report in the region.
The leaders have isolated at least three key major issues in the BBI report which according to their views addresses the challenges facing the region as they drum up support for BBI in a deliberate strategy to counter DP Ruto’s wave in the region.
This was revealed through a statement from Nyeri town Member of Parliament Ngunjiri Wambugu who stated that they will move across all the counties in Mount Kenya region to drum up support for the BBI report.
“We are going to move across all our counties to tell our people the truth about the many benefits we have in the BBI report. We started from Kiambu on Saturday and we will take the message to every village,” Wambugu said.
“Our meetings will be held in strict compliance with the Covid-19 protocols,” he added.
Among the key issues in the BBI document that they intend to use to market the report include;
The creation of the Youth Commission and a dedicated fund to help startup businesses as a deliberate effort to address the unemployment problem in the region.
The additional 70 constituencies proposed in the report as likely to resonate with the region’s one man one vote, one shilling Revenue Allocation Formula.
The team will tour Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Embu, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Laikipia, Nyandarua and Nakuru to popularise the BBI report.
The Mt Kenya team has already printed BBI campaign merchandise including T-shirts and caps as they unveil their marathon programme to market BBI.
This is seen as a strategy to counter the DP’s hustler nation narrative said to have threatened the President’s fortunes in his own backyard.
