New headache for Uhuru and Raila as some senior government officials call for disbandment of Haji led BBI Taskforce

There is an elaborate plot by some senior officials in government to have the Building Bridges Initiative task force and steering committee led by Garissa Senator Yusuf Haji disbanded altogether. This comes just days after President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga publicly unveiled the BBI Report at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday. Other members of the Committee are Adams Oloo , Agnes Kavindu, Senator Amos Wako, Florence Omose, Saeed Mwanguni, James Matundura, Major John Seii, Bishop Lawi Imathiu, Maison Leshomo, Senator Mohamed Yusuf Haji, Morompi ole Ronkai Prof., Bishop Peter Njenga, Rose Mose and Archbishop Zecheus Okoth.

”There is a silent but intense war on whether to have the taskforce oversee the last phase of the BBI process of public sensitization and distribution of the document. Those who want the 14-member team headed by Senator Yusuf Haji to survive say they will protect the process from political infiltration by Tanga Tanga led by Murkomen and give the process some decency,” a source confided to this writer on condition of anonymity.

Those opposed to the committee argue the process of changing a Constitution requires technical competence which the current team, as composed lack, to oversee its implementation and only “draftsmen” should take over.

The president however technically ended the tug of war at the Bomas of Kenya on Monday when he told Adams Oloo to prepare to see the document reaches all Kenyans soonest. This was seen as an approval of the Committee to continue with its work. It is reported President Uhuru and Raila Odinga are impressed by the work the committee has done so far and they may have bigger responsibility it, as the country heads into a referendum.
