According to Infotrak polls which were conducted in the months of August and September, ANC Party Leader Hon. Musalia Mudavadi’s popularity in Western Kenya has increased significantly over the last one year. The polls had a sample size of 2502 persons who were asked direct questions about their favorite politicians in the region. The polls covered 5 counties from Western Kenya and North Rift.
Musalia’s popularity in Western Kenya, according to the polls currently stands at 33% with his greatest support base coming from his county of Vihiga and Kakamega county. Devolution and ASAL CS Hon. Eugene Wamalwa and Kakamega County Governor and the Chair of the Council of Governors H.E Eugene Wamalwa have been ranked the second most popular politicians in Western Kenya by the polls at the percentage of 12%.
The two antagonists Hon.Moses Wetangula and Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi came fourth in the opinion polls with 11% with their strongholds domiciled in two counties of Trans Nzoia and Bungoma.Hon.Wamunyinyi’s surprise improvement in popularity came as a result of him taking over from Hon. Wetangula is the Ford Kenya party leader. According to the political analysts, the bold move of dethroning Wetangula from the helm of Ford Kenya was taken by Hon. Wafula Wamunyinyi is the reason for his increased popularity.
Former Kakamega Senator Dr.Boni Khalwale was ranked sixth with 4% rating. The COTU boss Mr.Francis Atwoli was ranked last in the polls with a 3% rating. Other politicians like Senate Speaker Hon. Kenneth Lusaka, governors, senators, and MPs had negligible percentages that were categorized in others. The polls had a disparity of 2.5%.
