On a day of heated drama that saw police move in to teargas DP Ruto’s supporters, self-proclaimed National Resistance Movement (NRM) Miguna Miguna has come out guns blazing in defense of the DP.
Taking to Twitter, Miguna condemned the events of the day, asserting that all citizens have the same rights.
“William Ruto and his supporters are human beings and Kenyans. They and each one of us have inalienable rights that no one has power to derogate on, vitiate or violate without resistance. There is no first class or second class citizen. All citizens have the same rights. Period!” Miguna Miguna stated.
This comes after Deputy President William Ruto’s event that was set to take place in Nyamira County was disrupted as his rowdy supporters engaged the police in a running battle.
The police were forced to disperse Ruto’s supporters who had assembled at Kebirigo High School ready to welcome him for a meeting with boda boda riders and the youths in the area.
The Government through the Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua declared that all political meetings would only be held in strict compliance of section 5 of the public order act, cap. 56 following the ugly scene that was witnessed in Murang’a County that left two people dead and scores others injured just hours before Ruto’s event.
Reports indicate that police officers ordered Ruto’s supporters to move out of the tent where the event was expected to take place. They also removed tents and disarranged seats and, later on, shot teargas at rowdy youth.
“Tutoke pole pole sisi wote. Tutoke nje.” said a police officer.
