NTV journalist Dennis Okari has received a surprise gift of Ksh 500,000 gift from Kimilili Member of Parliament Dismus Barasa for his Covid-19 Millionaires exposé.
The vocal Member of Parliament allied to Deputy President William Ruto thanked Okari for his investigative work and promised to give him Kenya shillings 500,000 unconditionally to cater for his legal fees.
Barasa alleged that since the exposé, Covid-19 cases being reported by Ministry of Health during their daily briefing have gone down.
“Because of his exposé we have seen the numbers of Covid-19 cases dropping from 600’s to 100’s, it means that he has foiled the business that was benefiting from the numbers going up.
“I will send the money to him because I’m told some people have sued him so I want to lead Kenyans in standing with Okari for exposing the Covid-19 millionaires,” Barasa said.
It is not clear if the journalist will receive accept the gift.
He gave his assurance of delivering the money to Okari through his lawyer on Thursday, August 27 upon his arrival in Nairobi.
Megascope CEO Richard Ngatia had moved to file a case in court over Okari’s exposé alleging that he used information from unreliable sources to taint his image.
Barasa further claimed that the individuals mentioned in the report have sold the donated original Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and have colluded to manufacture fake PPEs to sell to Kenyans.
“I am informed that these people, after selling all the donated PPEs, they have resorted to manufacturing contraband PPEs to sell to people.
“If you look at the people who are mentioned are the vocal ODM MPs, this tells you that we people of Mulembe nation are worried after they form government, they can sell our land to Uganda,” he claimed.
He called for the arrest and prosecution of Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.
