The family of nurse Maryanne Awuor who died from Covid-19 yesterday, just a few days after giving birth while in Intensive care has blamed the hospital for her death, revealing damning details.
Her husband, Stephen Okal Oketch and his father his father, Barack Oketch Amwata lamented that the deceased together with her new-born baby was left unattended for more than three days beginning last Friday leading to her death on Sunday evening in what could be the worst case of neglect in the country.
“Doctors and nurses at KTRH (Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital) are on a go-slow because they have not received their salaries. Our patient was left unattended from Friday last week with our newborn left to feed on air,” stated Mr Amwata in an interview with Nation..
He recounted that he was devastated when he visited the deceased in hospital, only to find her abandoned in the ward, adding that medics neglected her when they learned she was infected.
“Nobody was willing to attend to her. We were not even informed of her transfer from ICU to the Covid-19 isolation facility.” He added.
Even after the deceased tested positive for Covid-19, officials at the health facility failed to inform her family until a nurse sympathized with the devastated family and broke the sad news.
“We met the official in charge of KTRH, Dr Enoch Ondari, only two days ago. Before that, it was very difficult to get information from the hospital that is supposed to be a referral facility,” said Mr Amwata.
The deceased passed on just 7 months after her wedding, leaving behind her baby who has since been moved to Jaramogi Teaching and Referral Hospital.
