Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) boss Mohammed Nbadi stormed City Hall on Thursday, 30 July 2020.
A video recorded during the visit shows the duo arriving in white face masks in the company of eight others dressed in suits.
The purpose of their abrupt visit was not immediately clear but speculation is rife that the visit is related to the drama that was witnessed at City Hall on Tuesday when police descended on Mlango Kubwa MCA Patricia Mutheu.
Following the incident, orders were issued that police at City Hall be disarmed with investigations launched into the incident.
Matiang’i also asked for the licenses of the officers involved in clobbering the lawmaker to be withdrawn.
One of the police officers involved in the act that sparked outrage was one Mr. John Mwaniki whose continued stay at the police service was exposed by Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.
Taking to social media, the governor revealed how the rogue cop had been dismissed from the police service on two occasions including by a court of law yet still remained in the force in questionable circumstances.
“SENIOR COP CAUGHT ON CAMERA ASSAULTING HON. MUTHEU WAS FIRED FOR INDISCIPLINE IN 2013, WAS REINSTATED IN 2014. BUT IN 2016 FIRED AGAIN BY NPSC AFTER HE WAS FOUND UNFIT TO SERVE. WHO RETAINED HIM AND HE NEVER CHALLENGED HIS DISMISSAL AFTER 2016?”……Sonko wrote
