Governor Ngilu’s fate hangs in the balance as her impeachment takes a new twist

Embattled Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu will know her fate on Wednesday15th Jul 2020 when an impeachment motion against her will be tabled by the house majority leader and member of the County Assembly for Athi ward Mr Peter Kilonzo.

In a letter dated 23 Jun 2020 the house informed the Governor of the pending impeachment motion that could halt her career.

“This is to notify you that the Motion dated 16 June, 2020 calling for the removal of the governor, County Government of Kitui by impeachment shall be considered by the County Assembly of Kitui between 15th July 2020 and 17th July 2020 in the line with Standing Order 60 of the Kitui County Assembly Standing orders,” reads the letter in part.

The county manager is accused of flouting the two-thirds gender rule in most appointments she has made in the recent past.

Ngilu is also on the spot to answer to audit queries with MCAs maintaining that she has been snubbing them whenever summoned.

Governor has been facing uphill tasks from the MCAs with the Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka blamed for her political woes.

Her impeachment was halted by the High court and the summons not yet officially withdrawn by the speaker, the governor then dispatched her legal team to protest alleged bias by the house speaker.

On 29th Jun 2020, her lawyers Martin Oloo, Morris Kimuli and Stanley Kiima who had presented papers at the County assembly were roughed up by the orderlies. In which Mr. Kimuli was left nursing back injuries and reported the assault case at the Kitui police station.
