Details have emerged of how President Uhuru Kenyatta broke the bank for ODM party leader Raila Odinga who is recovering after a successful surgery in Dubai.
Media reports indicate the president hired a luxurious private jet to pick Odinga and bring him home even as international flights remain suspended.
The Private Jet Airbus A318-112 (CJ) Elite A6-CAS, MS4211 left the country on Thursday, 09 July 2020 with ODM deputy leader Hassan Joho and Suna East MP Junet Mohamed aboard.
The plane landed in the country yesterday at around 11:30 from UAE via Zambia and left at noon.
The 19-seater plane is a blend of luxury and comfort, with occupants enjoying a mahogany interior, an entourage lounge, a VIP dining and lounge area, a private office and a VIP bedroom.
The entourage landed in Dubai after the 5-hour flight bearing messages of goodwill and met the AU special envoy for infrastructure.
“Received a visit from Governor Hassan Joho and National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohammed,” Odinga tweeted on Thursday, July 9.
The luxury and comfort come at a price of Ksh 1.3 Million meaning that the five-hour flight to Dubai was at a cost of Ksh 6.5 million.
A round trip will make the figure rise to Ksh. 13 million, excluding the trip from Zambia and the hours it stayed on the ground in Nairobi and Dubai before jetting back as well as miscellaneous costs such as food and beverages and entertainment.
