Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) party leader Raila Odinga’s major proposal to have Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) passed referendum way has been endorsed by the BBI committee after concluding on the matter and drafting their final recommendations for the action.
According to the Daily Nation report, Kenyans must prepare themselves for a referendum after the final BBI report is handed to over President Uhuru Kenyatta and the opposition leader.
“A senior official in the Committee said that Kenyans now tighten their belts as it is now clear that the country will be going for a national referendum,” the publication reported.
The reports further indicated that an inside source privy to the committee’s final recommendation revealed that the committee had no option but to recommend a referendum following the provisions of 2010 constitution.
The source also informed that the change of Governance structure both in County and the entire governments among other pertinent matters can only be validated through a referendum.
“It is a somewhat tough journey especially in view of the current global situation, but Kenyans must understand that for peace and stability in the future we must accept this process. We must sacrifice now for a better Kenya tomorrow,” the source noted.
