A Nairobi court has convicted businesswoman Grace Wakhungu and Sirisia Member of Parliament John Waluke after finding them guilty of obtaining millions of money for maize they allegedly did not supply.

The Sirisia MP John Waluke and his co-accused have been over Sh700 million each or face seven years in prison. Waluke was slapped with Sh727 million fine while Grace Sarapay Wakhungu was fined Sh707 million.

The two who appeared before Milimani anti-corruption court magistrate Elizabeth Juma were found guilty of fraud over Sh313 million maize scandal at the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB).

In the ruling, the magistrate state they however have a right to appeal within fourteen (14) days from the date of the ruling.

Before the ruling, Waluke’s lawyer Cliff Ombeta pleaded with the court to have mercy on the legislator and grant them a lenient sentence as a “request not a demand”.

To avoid serving the seven years in prison, the accused persons would ultimately need to fund-raise for the fine running into millions to have their freedom.

As “Major” Waluke will have to depend on his political allies, Grace Wakhungu looks to be a step ahead as she has been surrounded by relatives who are at bare minimum; multi-billionaires. Take a look:
