Speaker Justin Muturi on Monday threw out Nyali MP Mohammed Ali’s petition seeking oust Transport CS Michael Macharia from office. The legislator had given notice to table a motion seeking to remove the from office over his order to use the SGR to transport cargo from Mombasa to Naivasha ICD.
While giving his reasons to throw out the notice, Speaker Muturi said there was no sufficient evidence to warrant the tabling of the motion by Ali.
“It is therefore my determination that the proposed motion is not admissible. The Clerk is thereby directed to communicate to the honourable member,” Muturi said.
The petition which was signed by 90 MPs, Macharia was accused of overseeing stalled government projects worth Ksh. 100billion and being part of the Afya House scandal that saw taxpayers lose Ksh. 5.2billion in 2016 when he was in charge of the Health docket.
“Cabinet Secretary James Macharia has failed to set up crucial infrastructure such as highways, bridges, ports and airports despite such projects being hailed as important for the country’s economic growth,” the petition reads.
The Transport CS is also blamed for failing to explain the loss of Ksh. 1.5billion that was meant for construction of housing projects in Nairobi by Suraya Property Group, which he (Ali) has linked to Macharia.
