The embattled Kirinyaga County Governor Anne Waiguru has been humiliated badly, forced to stand for half an hour at the Senate as the selected Senate committee members commenced the hearing on her impeachment.
As the protocol during hearings, the committee chair and Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala ordered the embattled Waiguru to stand in silence as the committee read various counts of charges against her.
The charge list was, however, so long and took over 30 minutes to be read out in its full forcing the governed to stand in silence while occasionally giving out a frightening look as the accusations were being read out in the full glare of the media.
According to the Motion passed by the Kirinyaga County Assembly members, the charges against Waiguru include Gross Misconduct, Violation of the Constitution and Abuse of Office.
The committee Chair Malala said that the committee would give all parties a chance to voice their arguments before the senate make any ruling regarding the matter before them.
“The Special Committee wishes to emphasize that it is cognizant of the gravity of the matter with which it is seized and that it has accorded all parties to the proceedings the right to be heard and shall accord the parties a fair hearing.
“As the Hon Speaker observed in his Communication to the Senate made on Tuesday, 16th June, the hearing of charges for the proposed removal from office of a Governor is one of the most important functions of the Senate under the Constitution,” Malala made it clear.
