Controversial blogger Robert Alai has sensationally claimed that Kenya’s intensive lobbying and the subsequent winning of the non permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council was a larger conspiracy to stop the 2022 Presidential Bid of the Deputy President William Ruto.
In a viral twitter post, Alai alluded the UN Security Council seat was only meant for manipulations of the 2022 election and completely had nothing to do with “the interest of Africa.”
“The UNSC seat was just for the 2022 election manipulations. Has nothing to do with “the interest of Africa.” he said.
Alai, who has been critical of the government in the past few months said the hidden objective of securing the seat was merely to be used to lobby for international community to reject DP Ruto’s ambition.
“..Basically, they would want to ensure that Ruto doesn’t become President and use the seat to lobby for international support. ” he added.
Kenya defeated Djibouti in a second round of election to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), after the UN General Assembly (UNGA) failed to receive the required two-thirds majority of 128 votes in the first round of voting.
In the Thursday’s vote for the 15-member council’s Africa seat, Kenya received 129 votes against Djibouti’s 62.
Kenya will replace South Africa and join Norway, Ireland, India and Mexico, which were elected on Wednesday as non-permanent members for a two-year term starting on January 1, 2021.
Kenya will return to the UN’s most powerful organ after 23 years where it will be part of key decisions on global peace and security alongside the five permanent members with veto powers (Russia, UK, US, China and France).
