Laikipia County Woman’s Representative and a erstwhile vocal member of the Inua Mama faction of Jubilee Party, Catherine Waruguru had always kept her marriage under wraps.
The legislator was married to Nanyuki based lawyer, Kiprotich William Kiget as a second wife. The identity of her husband is still scanty.
According to his Facebook profile, Kiget hails from Kericho County and is an advocate at the Nanyuki High Court.
He is an alumnus of Kabianga High School and studied law at the University of Nairobi, and later at the University of Mangalore, India. Kiget is a former founder of One More Day for Children, a foundation that was established to advocate and cater to the needs of vulnerable, and needy children in the society.
In December 2017 Waruguru stunned Kenyans when she revealed that she was happy being a second wife as reported by Nation Media Group. This was after President Uhuru Kenyatta signed into law the Marriage Act 2014, which legalised polygamy.
“You saw the president signing into law the Marriage Act the other day. As women, we must refrain from being distracted by societal decisions,” she argued.
Though he is less known to the public, Kiget hit the media waves in May 2018, when he was sued by an accident victim for Ksh2.1 million as per media reports.
In July 2018, the Daily Nation reported that Waruguru and her husband, William, were turned away from a Kericho hotel for failure to produce a marriage certificate. Waruguru had accompanied her husband to Kericho, to visit her in-laws before the incident ensued.
Pictures from his Facebook page reveal that Kiget has met Deputy President William Ruto before.
“The day came. We had to contribute towards a noble cause. Building of the temple.” A post on his page read, accompanied by a photo with the DP.
But it seems all is not well in paradise if the revelations by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria are anything to go by.
This followed Waruguru’s defection from the Tanga Tanga camp that supports Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 campaigns.
Kuria claimed that Waruguru turned against Ruto after she cheated on her husband who comes from Kericho and was dumped after the discovery.
The controversial MP went on to make personal attacks on the paternity of her children, which we cannot publish for legal reasons.
Kuria made the sensational claims after Waruguru hit out at Ruto’s Tanga Tanga camp during an interview on a popular Kikuyu television show.
This is why Waruguru is ranting. She got a baby early this year. Her Rift Valley lawyer ‘husband’ was convinced the baby was his. At some point he asked for a DNA test. The results proved that the baby was fathered by a business associate of the current Kirinyaga Governor. Lawyer took off. Sisi tunaingilia wapi jamaneni ?
Waruguru said her decision to abandon Tanga Tanga and Deputy President William Ruto was informed by a lot of reflection and wide consultations during her maternity leave.
“We have been busy going round doing harambees and going to churches. In some cases, what was promised is not delivered. When I accompanied Ruto to Laikipia he promised several buses to schools and we are still waiting for them. Other regions are busy doing development projects and I have decided that I will not take my people to the Opposition,” she stated.
